I recently spent three amazing days in Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), exploring its spiritual sites, historical landmarks, and vibrant local culture. If you’re planning a trip, here’s my personal Prayagraj itinerary for 3 days to make the most of your visit!

Day 1: Prayagraj Itinerary (Allahabad)-Exploring Spirituality & History

Morning: A Sacred Start at Triveni Sangam

My trip started with a visit to Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. The peaceful boat ride took me right to the meeting point of these holy waters. Watching pilgrims take a dip in the Sangam was truly a humbling experience. I couldn’t resist dipping my feet in the water—it felt like a divine blessing!

Right next to the Sangam, I visited the Bade Hanuman Temple, which is unique because the idol of Lord Hanuman lies in a reclining position. It was crowded, but the energy of the place was amazing.

Afternoon: Walking Through History

After a spiritual start, I took a walk around the Allahabad Fort (only its exterior is accessible). Built by Emperor Akbar, the fort stands tall, telling tales of the Mughal era. Though I couldn’t enter, I admired its grand architecture from outside.

Next, I visited Anand Bhavan, the ancestral home of the Nehru family. Walking through the museum, I saw rare photographs and personal belongings of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Right next to it, Swaraj Bhavan stood as a reminder of India’s freedom struggle.

Evening: Temples & Tranquility

As the sun began to set, I headed to Alopi Devi Temple, which is unlike any other temple—it doesn’t have a traditional idol! Instead, devotees worship a wooden cradle, believing the Goddess resides in it.

I ended my day with a peaceful stroll at Chandrashekhar Azad Park (Company Bagh). This lush green space was where freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad made his last stand against British forces. The silence of the place felt powerful, as if history was whispering its tales.

Day 2: A Heritage & Food Trail

Morning: Mughal Grandeur & British Architecture

My second day started at Khusro Bagh, a stunning Mughal-era garden with intricately designed tombs of Prince Khusro and his family. It was like stepping into another time period!

From there, I visited All Saints Cathedral, an architectural marvel from the British era. The towering structure and stained-glass windows were breathtaking.

Afternoon: Markets & Local Flavors

I couldn’t miss Minto Park (now called Mahatma Gandhi Park), where the British officially handed over power to the East India Company in 1858. It’s a small but historically significant spot.

By lunchtime, I was at Loknath Market, a paradise for food lovers. I indulged in hot Kachori-Sabzi and some delicious Chaat, followed by a tall glass of Prayagraj’s famous Lassi. The flavors were unforgettable!

Evening: Sunset & Landmarks

I walked around Allahabad University, one of India’s oldest universities, admiring its grand colonial-style buildings.

Just in time for sunset, I reached Naini Bridge. Watching the Yamuna River reflect the twilight sky was the perfect way to end the day.

Day 3: Adventure & Leisure

Morning: Temples & Hidden Gems

I began my final day at Shankar Viman Mandapam, a South Indian-style temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Climbing up, I was rewarded with a fantastic view of the city.

Next, I stopped at Nagvasuki Temple in Daraganj, dedicated to the serpent king Vasuki. This temple is a must-visit, especially during Nag Panchami.

Afternoon: Markets & Ancient Sites

For some local shopping, I headed to Meerapur Market, where I found beautiful handicrafts, religious souvenirs, and books.

Later, I visited the Bhita Ancient Ruins, an offbeat archaeological site showcasing remains from the Maurya and Gupta periods. If you love history, this hidden gem is worth the visit.

Evening: The Perfect Farewell

I returned to Triveni Sangam for a sunset boat ride. The golden hues reflected on the water made for a magical farewell moment. Before leaving Prayagraj, I treated myself to authentic Mughlai food and famous Paan at Civil Lines.
